PHGA Board Meeting Thursday July 9, 2009

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by Gary Schweitz

 

Board minutes From June11, 2009 were read and approved.

 

Treasurers Report – Joe Saccomanno presented the budget which reported the John Dempster Memorial Tree Fund has $595.  John Helpap volunteered to follow through with the tree purchase and placement, to be on the 15/16 fairway area.  The treasurers report was accepted as presented.

 

Park District Report – Bob Alexander reported the meeting for the month has not yet taken place, but had news about several items.  Play at Palatine is up slightly year to date from 2008 with the Family and Junior programs adding to the round counts.  Also, the Fremd golf team will be moving their practice to Hilldale due to scheduling conflicts at Palatine Hills.  The aeration schedule for the fall was checked and will not interfere with the Takahashi Classic.

 

New Member Liaison – Larry indicated new members still at 18, and raised a question about new members being added to the Yahoo Group email list.  Rick monitors the list, since he is not present an email will be sent to him asking to make sure the new member email addresses are part of the group so they can receive the fill-in emails and other important communications.

 

Golf Course Liaison- Ken discussed the concerns about the new collars with Raul, he indicated they are aware of issues and are trying to address them.  A list of questions were raised, a meeting with Raul for interested board members will be scheduled.

 

Scoring – Doug indicated all is well with scoring; one member currently has an unpaid event entry fee. 

 

Rules Of Play Committee – John indicated the ball will be played down holes 12, 13 and 14 with 15, 16, and 18 remaining lift, clean, and place until conditions improve.

 

Fourth of July Tournament – Scott Feldmiller and Bill Knudsen reported the event went smoothly with 48 golfers participating.  The stroke-and-distance rule did not have and adverse effect on the round timing.

 

Handicap Committee – Mike and Rick reported no current issues with handicaps.

 

GEM Committee – Bob Matheson all is well with the GEM program.

 

Match Play – Bob indicated all is well with the match play event; the event is on schedule.

 

Travel Event – Bob Bem reported the travel event at Pinecrest is on schedule, 28 golfers with two more interested at this time.

 

Additional Business – The board golf and dinner was discussed, the plans have not been determined.  Brian and Mike will investigate some possible dates and discuss their findings next meeting.

 

The PHGA banner designs were evaluated, the winner is the design that depicts the 7th hole and fountain in the background with the PHGA logo front and center.  Rick will be contacted to follow through with the order.

 

Rick reported via email that The Takahashi Classic signup will start August 15 with emails and announcements the week before signup begins.  The web site will also be updated at that time.  The board discussed the budget for lunches Saturday of the Classic; a motion was made and approved that no lunch will be served on that day.

 

Ken Mattuck requested names of possible candidates for the board next year, sever people will be contacted and an email will be sent out to find interested parties.

 

Gary Schweitz raised a question regarding bringing back the Dinner/Dance for PHGA members.  It was decided the board will judge the interest by talking to members over the next few weeks and will discuss their findings at the next meeting.
