PHGA Board Meeting Thursday August 13, 2009

 

All members present + Jim Nolan

 

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by Gary Schweitz

 

Board minutes From July 9, 2009 were read and approved.

 

Treasurers Report – Joe presented the budget which reported a $40 charge to repair the clocks.  The budget is in good standing with no changes, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

 

Park District Report – Bob reported the park district would like to get the John Dempster plaque; the inscription was discussed and approved.  The location on the 15/16 fairway area is good, would like to plant the tree this fall and schedule a fall/spring dedication.

 

New Member Liaison – Larry indicated new members still at 18, and raised a question about the PHGA participation in the Junior Luncheon.  There were 27 kids participating and it was determined that more promotion for the event would be helpful

 

Golf Course Liaison- Ken proposed the ballot for the 2010 Board, it was reviewed and accepted.  John reported on the meeting with Raul, Dan, and Brad, the following items were discussed:

 

Retention Walls and potential replacement

Rolling the greens and the possible purchase of new equipment

5th tee area construction/completion

Collars that were replaced and current condition

7 and 9 bunker renovations

Drainage on 13 and 15

Possible Clubhouse Renovations

Flood control on the back 9

Construction on the alternate 1st hole

 

Scoring – Doug indicated all is well with scoring. 

 

Rules Of Play Committee – John indicated the ball will be played down with 15, 16, and 18 remaining lift, clean, and place until the end of the month.  Rules were reviewed for the Takahashi Classic, it was determined USGA rules would apply with the Environmental areas playable as a lateral hazard.

 

Labor Day Tournament – Scott and Bill reported signup for the event will be made available Saturday August 15.

 

Handicap Committee – Mike and Rick reported no current issues with handicaps.

 

GEM Committee – Bob reported all is well with the GEM program.

 

Match Play – Bob indicated all is well with match play, trophies have been ordered for the flight winners.

 

Travel Event – Bob reported the travel event at Prairie Isle is on schedule, 28 golfers with two more interested, 116 players have participated over the last year.

 

Additional Business – The board outing was discussed, it was determined there is not enough time to plan a formal outing, an informal outing is in the works.

 

The PHGA banners were unveiled, thanks to Rick for doing a great job.  Two banners were ordered and are available to display at PHGA sponsored events.

 

Rick reported that The Takahashi Classic signup will start August 15.  Round requirements were discussed, it was decided that the current requirements will remain firm.  Dave Thompson will be the contact for exemption requests.  PayPal payments will not be accepted for the Takahashi.   The Smoker will be held at Birchwood; the room booking has been verified.  All else is ready for the signup to begin.
