PHGA Board Meeting Thursday October 8, 2009

All members in attendance:

Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM by Bob Bem

Board minutes From September 10, 2009 were read and approved.

 

Treasurers Report – Joe Saccomanno reported the John Dempster tree is still on schedule for this fall, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

 

Park District Report – Nothing new to report.

 

Scoring – Doug James reported the last handicap update of the year will be the first Thursday in November (5th).

 

Handicap Committee – Nothing new to report.

 

Golf Course Liaison- Ken Mattuck reported that the letter drafted by the PHGA Board will be presented to the Park District Board at the October 27th meeting.  The board will look into replacing the metal boundaries of the 15th/16th  and 18th hole ponds in the short term.

 

GEM Committee – Bob Mathieson indicated nothing new to report.  Again it was stated that it is the player’s responsibility to check their handicap before the start of the round to make sure they are playing the correct tees and they remain eligible for the GEM tees.

 

Travel Event Committee – Bob Bem announced there were 136 participants in the travel program this year, and the results of the Eddie Wolf Cup:

Takahashi Classic – The Takahashi Classic and smoker went smoothly with no issues to report.  Feedback indicated the participants enjoyed having the smoker at Birchwood, there was more room during the supplemental and tee time selections. The BBQ was a success and Round requirements for the Takahashi Classic were reviewed, it was determined they would remain the same for the 2010 tournament.

 

Additional Business

 

Ryder Cup Tournament - Ed Neuman reported the signup is completed, team drawings will take place Thursday night.  Also, the Turkey Shoot gift certificates have been purchased.

 

Committee Assignments – Board members discussed committee participation, results will be posted on the web site with any unassigned places being filled at the next meeting February 2010.

 

Park District Volunteer of the Year – After a vote of board members and based on his many years of service to the PHGA Bob Mathieson will be honored as a Park District Volunteer of the Year at a luncheon in February.

 

Bob Bem suggested the name of the “Smokers” be changed, the board determined even though very little smoking is taking place the name would remain the same.
