PHGA Board Meeting Thursday February 11, 2010

Meeting called to order at 7:01 PM by Bob Bem
Board minutes From October 8, 2009 were read and approved.
Treasurers Report – Joe Saccomanno reported the budget was balanced for 2009, the treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.
Park District Report/Golf Course Liaison – Ken Mattuck reported that the PHGA Board received a letter from the Park District indicating there would be no major changes to the course in 2010. The Park District has hired a consultant to evaluate the golf course and propose a long term plan for course improvements.
Scoring/Rules – Rick Hapanowicz reported all is ready to go for the upcoming season.
GEM Committee – Bob Mathieson will send a letter to the membership explaining participation in the GEM program. Last year there were 16-18 participants.
Handicap Committee – Rick Hapanowicz proposed a change in the handicap updates. The CDGA updates their handicaps the 1st and 15th of each month it was suggested the PHGA change the schedule to match these dates. The board voted and it was decided that the current PHGA schedule would continue to be used in order to make sure the handicaps were updated before the Takahashi Classic.
New Member Liaison – Jim Jessogne will set up a table at the permanent tee time drawing with PHGA information for prospective members.
Travel Event Committee – Bob Bem announced all travel events are set for the upcoming season, the first event will be at Ravisloe May 20, future event dates will be posted on the web site.
Old Business
The board discussed the hole in one prize that is offered at PHGA sponsored events. The prize will remain available during events that coincide with the PRST times which start on April 24th and end with the Takahashi Classic September 12.
The John Dempster dedication ceremony will be scheduled for the spring, TBD after talking with his family.
Ed Neuman reported all went well with the Ryder Cup tournament last fall.
Additional Business
Bob Mathieson was honored as a Park District Volunteer of the Year at a luncheon in February.
Bob Alexander was added to the Park District Honor Roll based on his many years of community service.
Bob Bem proposed that a committee be formed to nominate outstanding volunteers to be recognized by the Park District. The board voted and approved the committee to be comprised of past volunteer recipients, which include Bob Mathieson, Bob Alexander, and Rick Hapanowicz.
Scott Feldmiller presented the final design for the PHGA Championship scorecard. It was proposed that the cards be used in place of the Palatine Hills card in order to aid the scorekeeper. The card has additional space for the member number as well as PHGA rules. The cost of printing is approximately $300. A vote was taken and the card purchase was approved.
Bob Bem suggested board member pictures be added to the web site to help members identify the current board members in case of questions or comments.
The spring Smoker will be held at the Palatine Hills Clubhouse on Friday April 2. Attendees are encouraged to bring a prize for the raffle.
Board meetings will take place the second Thursday of each month, next meeting Thursday March 11.
