Meeting called to order at 7:04PM by Bob Bem

Bill Knudsen read the minutes from the May 13th meeting for Scott Feldmiller.  Bob Bem had a correction on the minutes stating that Joe Saccomanno sent a fax to PayPal to resolve the current issue.  Larry Niemczyk moved to accept the revised minutes and Mike Oster second, all approved.

Treasurers Report – (PayPal Status) Joe Saccomanno read the report which showed one new member bringing the membership for 2010 to 148.  There was a slight discrepancy in the Thursday outing funds due to the incoming funds from the participants but Joe assured everything would be in order by the event.  Additionally Joe paid for  the Memorial Day and the 4th of July gift cards.  Mike Rodriguez and Mark Dugan both non PHGA members have been paying the $10.00 pot fee every week so their pot game money needed to be refunded to balance the funds.  Larry Niemczyk motioned to accept the minutes, Jim Jessongne second and the group approved the report.

Park District – (Golf Course Liaison Report) - Bob Mathieson reported on the Park District.  There will be a meeting the 22nd of June at the Palatine senior center at 7:00PM.  The golf course consultant will present several ideas to the board for consideration to eliminate flooding at the course.  Several Board members will attend the meeting and report back next month on the plans presented.  Bob Alexander said Commissioner Sayer, Helms, and Schultz wanted to thank Raul for the great job he did on the Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing.

Scorekeeper Report (Website, Handicap Committee) – Rick Hapanowicz is out of town on business.

Gem Committee - Bob Mathieson said everything was A OK.  Ed Neuman wanted a ruling on players playing Black vs. Blue tees.  The ruling was they can switch back and forth so long as they note the tees played on their card.  However GEM players must play the tee assigned through the GEM program.  Playing the wrong tees would result in disqualification for the days play.

New Members Liaison Report – Ed Neuman suggested that someone on the board should check with new members to see how they like the club and find out any feedback they may have.  Jim Jessogne will check to see when the new members are playing.  There was a discussion of where all the members from last year went,  Larry Niemczyk went over the nonpaid members list and it was determined that several members have moved away, some lost employment, a couple have passed on and some we were not sure of.  Jim Jessogne plans to call the new members and non paying members to check on their status and will report at the next meeting.

June Travel Report (Bartlett Hills) Bob Bem reported they were full with 24 members and hoping for a good day for golf.

Memorial Day Golf – Currently 23 players are signed up for Monday play.

John Dempster (Memorial fund update) John Helpap was absent so it was moved to the July meeting.

Dick Semelsberger (Memorial Fund Update) Larry Niemczyk has collected $177.00 to date and he is holding on to it.  Larry has been looking into the possibility of having an area near the Takahashi memorial that will be for PHGA players; there we could purchase bricks (7” x 3” paver bricks) with the members name, a golfer symbol and other pertinent information.  Larry thinks the bricks could be purchased for $35.00 each and made up for past and future members.  The board agreed to think about it till the July meeting.  Larry said he would talk to the individual that that does the etching to see if he could get a photo of an example.

Commemorative Gifts - Bob Mathieson suggested four options for the members:

1.         A PHGA Logo Ball that states “40 years of fun” $350.00 cost for the members.

2.         Jim Jessogne suggested 2 items: a cake at a cost of $150.00 which he offered to pay for.

a.         A cake from the Cake Box Bakery that states “40 years” with a picture of our founder Jim Takahashi

b.         Ask Jim Cook from the Daily Herald to do an article in the paper on our organization.

3.         Bill Horton suggested a brochure in 4 colors that we could hand out to new members. It would have all the events that the PHGA does throughout the year.  For a 1,000 brochures the cost would be $350.00.  The art/layout cost would be $80.00/hr.

4.         Larry Niemczyk is looking into bringing back the dinner/dance banquet for members and their significant other at a proposed cost of $30.00/per person (dinner) $15.00/per person open bar.  He is trying to get some solid pricing by the next meeting in July.

Match Play – Bob Mathieson stated the weather has not been cooperating so Bob is sending an e-mail with updates and extensions for matches.  A discussion on members not understanding the rules concerning where match play can take place and particular rules so he will send out an e-mail affirming the rules of play.

Membership Survey – Dave Thompson is away on business but he provided a sample ballot that he wants to send to membership.  The board suggested we table the discussion until Dave returns in July.

Joe Saccomanno had two concerns about last week’s play:

1.         There was no horn or ranger telling people to get off the course.

2.         The course has no cleat cleaners on each hole and asked if we could speak to Raul about adding some.  The Palatine Park District Liaison said that he would speak with Raul.

Joe moved to adjourn at 8:22PM, Mike Oster second, the group agreed.
