Ask the Scorekeeper June Edition

  • If he is playing under the PHGA guest policy (Section VII of the PHGA Bylaws) and he put $10 in the pot, write a few words in the scorecard email communicating his name, his GHIN number, tee used and that he put $10 in the Pot.

  • Please write a few words in the email when you send the scorecard. Something like Joe Smith is a non-PHGA player, do not use his score. Or cross his name and scores out on the scorecard.

    1. The scorekeeper looks in the PHGASCORES@GMAIL.COM account for the day’s scorecards.

    2. Based upon the scorecards the pairings are created in Golf Genius

    3. Once all the day’s scorecards are delivered in gMail and the pairings are created. The players are flighted based on index

    4. Tournaments (skins, Nassau, team or individual event) are added and the purse determined based upon the number of players

    5. Scores are entered from scorecards

    6. Results are posted

    7. After a few hour waiting period to allow for the inevitable call about score corrections the scores are posted to GHIN

On a typical Saturday or Sunday this process is usually completed in the late afternoon. Sometimes the scorekeeper is busy with life and the scoring is completed in the evening or night.

  • Palatine Hills reserves four or five tee times for the PHGA on Thursdays. If the tee times are not all used by the PHGA, Palatine Hills would like to return the tee times to the general public. By using the signup system the we are able to tell the course how many tee times the PHGA will use on Wednesday morning.

  • The reason we send the scorecards to each player is to have the player validate the scores. Mistakes can be made on the scorecards or during the recording the scores in Golf Genius. If you notice a mistake please contact the scorekeeper via Contact the Scorekeeper on the PHGA website.

  • Team games are not flighted. A complete explanation of Games can be found under Membership - Games on the PHGA website.

  • Scores and handicap information are all kept on the GHIN system that is accessible via the GHIN app or My Caddie app provided by the CDGA.

The PHGA nor Golf Genius determine handicaps. The GHIN system calculates your handicap based upon your submitted scores (PHGA scores or outside of the PHGA rounds). The GHIN is the definitive source for handicaps. The PHGA through Golf Genius retrieves handicaps from the GHIN system prior to PHGA rounds. The only exception is multi-day tournament periods where the handicap is not updated in Golf Genius during the multi-round period.

  • You can contact the scorekeeper 24×7 by using the Contact the Scorekeeper from the website
